Here is The Route Details
-
AT M25 junction 25, take the A10 to Hoddesdon.
-
Take the exit after you have passed Brookfield
Centre (Tesco and M&S), signpost A1170 to Broxbourne.
-
At next roundabout turn left to Wormley &
Broxbourne.
-
When you get to the traffic lights by the tower
of flats, turn right B194 and follow the signs to
Broxbourne Station.
-
When you get to the station, follow the road you
are on, past the Broxbourne Lido, through the
pedestrian lights, until you get to another set of
traffic lights after some shops.
-
Turn left at the lights onto North Street, and
follow the road up a hill, then down, past G & W
Fencing company (with windmill) sharp bend left then
sharp right until you see a sign for "Lignacite works"
which is on a right hand bend. Turn left here onto Meadgate Road.
There should be a sign up for Broxbourne Sailing Club
& the Windsurfing school.
-
Keep going past the lake and boats on your
RIGHT, and once you've passed over the bridge/weir,
immediately after this, turn left down a small track.
Be careful that you don't go too far and end up in the
River Lea (!), but the track should be easily seen.
The track will lead you
through a gate marked ESSA members
alongside the Central Lagoon
on your left and you will reach a small car park at
the end. The building in front of you is ESSA.
For those that use GPS, the post code you need is EN9 2PB which is not our base, but very near to the top of our lake. GPS lie about how to get to us - Some GPS systems may take you through Nazeing Glass works, that will get you lost, so ignore the nice lady or man shouting at you to turn around!
Best bet is if you use GPS, print the directions out above, and use with the maps. The OS grid is TL383 070
