ESSA CREW & THE YOUTH OPPORTUNITY FUND ENFIELD
Alex Harley (16) applied for funding to replace one of our well used rescue boat engines. The youth panel who decide who gets the grants were so impressed with his application that he was offered further funds. This has meant that not only will it be sufficient for the engine but also a new rescue boat, two rowing dinghies and other equipment. The boats have been ordered and are expected to arrive next month. This will increase our ability to offer sessions to more young people and improve our safety boat provision.
On 6th March, Alex and other youth members of the ESSA CREW attended the Enfield Civic Centre for a networking evening together with one of our bright yellow Picos. They assembled the Pico and displayed it inside the Civic Centre and created a lot of interest with the other groups. It added a certain WOW factor to the evening. The crew met about 30 other successful groups and will run taster sailing sessions for them over Easter. The Pico also features on the Enfield Council website.
We now have an ESSA helpers website, where you can log on to and tell us when you can help, or look up when we need help.
Please visit http://www.essacrew.co.uk for more details. You will have to register, and to do that you will have to be on our list of approved helpers.

RYA Training Centre
The RYA are the main people in the UK, who look after standards, for sailing, power, etc. They have annual, and spot checks during the season to see that the standards are maintained to their level of quality. Look for the RYA sign, it lets you know you will be getting the best training available, by qualified and competent instructors. |
